Inter Dzongkhag Games and Sports Meet :2017

The Dzongkhag Games and Sports Meet started on 19^th May in Punakha. There were seven schools within Punakha Dzongkhag participating in this event. The three days long event was sporting and participants displayed talents that knows no boundary to flourish.

Ugyen Academy backed up numerous trophies in all the categories, starting from track and field events, indoor and outdoor games. The students brought home title as the winners for Basketball (Boys and girls), Football(boys), Volleyball(boys). Not only in ball but our students proved their worth and sportsmanship by bringing home medals for indoor and track field as well.

What fascinated the expatiators was the spirit of sports man displayed by our students. We don't only win trophies but we win the hearts of people.

Zhabdrung Kuchoe

On Friday, 5^th of May 2017, corresponding to the 10^th day of 3^rd month in the Bhutanese calendar, the nation observed the holy Zhabdrung Kuchoe. Ugyen Academy participated in the two-day chanting of the Jigten Wangchuk prayers in the Pungthang Dewa Chenpoi Phodrang, the very place which houses the holy remains of Zhabdrubg Rinpoche inside the sacred Machen.

Class eleven students took part on the first day of the prayer ceremony while the class twelve students participated on the day of the Zhabdrung Kuchoe. The participants were blessed by the presence of His Holiness the Jekhenpo.

Health and Disaster Preparedness

Professors from Chinese University of HongKong (CUHK), Emily Ying Yang Chan and Dr.Tony Ka Chun Yung conducted a brief seminar on Health and Disaster Preparedness and also Natural Disasters which are highly prone in Bhutan. Professor Emily touched on the disasters such as Earthquake and Flood and Dr.Tony talked on nutritional issues with natural disasters.

It was very informative and the seminar was of great benefit to the students in preparing themselves for any natural calamities which may strike the chords of our country. The team from CUHK also conducted a research on Health and Disaster Preparedness by making students fill in a questionaire. The presence of guests from internationally acclaimed university made the program even more granduer and promising. Having been said about natural disasters, we the students were reminded and mentally equipped about the natural threats and the consequences that is imposing on our country.

Annual School Marathon

Run while you can. If you want to run, run a mile. If you want to experience a different life, run a marathon. This morning the entire students of Ugyen academy lined up with unmeasurable energy to ready, set and go for the school marathon. 

The entire program was a competition between the four houses. The marathon had various categories ranging from junior boys’ and girls’ categories, senior boys and girls and the most challenging professional category. The event started at 6:00am.

Badges Awarded for Student Leaders

The new batch of student leaders were awarded with the badges today(23-03-2017). Dasho Sonam Tobgay Dorji, Vice Chairman of Ugyen Academy graced the event and shared his happiness on seeing the students grooming not only in terms of displaying manners but also in academics. The event was followed by awarding of Be Your Best (BYB) badges to student toppers of 2016 for academic excellence. 

The entire school congratulates the captains and recipients of BYB award 2017. We wish you a fruitful academic year.
